Police launch appeal after van assault

HAMPSHIRE POLICE have launched an urgent appeal for any witnesses and information in Fareham after a woman was assaulted late on New Years Eve last year; further announcing the arrest of a male and outlining important details of this incident which left the victim needing treatment for minor injuries to her hands / legs.

It was reported that the woman was sat in a stationary blue and white Volkswagen Transporter van at around 11:20pm on December 31, 2022 (Saturday). An unknown male opened a door to the vehicle and dragged the victim out by her hair; leaving the scene near to Bishopsfield Road immediately after this incident had ended.

Officers have stated that an unnamed 48 year old male from Fareham was arrested on suspicions of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and making threats to kill. He was released on police bail until April 1 (Saturday) following initial questioning whilst the case is fully investigated.

As part of their enquires police are keen to hear from anybody who may have been in the surrounding areas of Bishopsfield Road around this time and saw the assault, including any CCTV or Doorbell video footage. If driving dash cam footage is also welcomed so that officers can piece together aspects of their investigations.
