Injuries after Portchester traffic incident

TWO DRIVERS were taken to hospital following a road traffic collision that saw closures of a main Portchester route early, causing delays for local drivers whilst emergency services dealt with the incident; Hampshire Police have confirmed.

Police and ambulance were called to the crash on Downend Road, near the 24/7 Gym, just after 1pm on Monday (January 24); with the quick decision being made to close the carriageway in directions.

In a tweet on the day, Fareham police said: “Downend Road (Portchester) Closed both directions due to an RTC. It is close to the 24/7 Gym”. This was seconded by Romanse shortly after this tweet,

And after police stated that details would be released in due course, it has been confirmed that both drivers were taken to hospital. One suffered a suspected broken ankle, while the other reported having neck pain.

A spokesman for Hampshire Police said “We were called out at 1.03pm yesterday afternoon (24 Jan) following reports of a two-vehicle collision on Downend Road in Fareham. A blue BMW collided with a blue Honda after pulling out of a junction.

‘The driver of the Honda suffered a suspected broken ankle and taken to hospital, while the other driver was taken to hospital as a precaution due to neck pain.

The road was opened shortly after the closure, with police and response colleagues thanking other drivers for their patience whilst they dealt with the incident. No comment has been made regarding any potential witness appeals in relation to this crash.
