Appeal launched after attempted dog robbery

HAMPSHIRE CONSTABULARY have announced they have launched an “urgent” appeal for witnesses and information to assist their continuing investigations following an incident in Rowner late last week; which saw an unidentified young male approach a female dog walker and attempt to steal their greyhound’ pet during the early evening of December 15.

This “attempted robbery” is reported to have occurred in the area close to St Nicholas Avenue at approximately 6pm on Friday and proved unsuccessful. The dog walker was luckily unharmed and the man fled from this incident scene using a footpath; whilst another male ensured that the victim was OK and safe before police were contacted soon afterwards.

Detectives are keen to identify this male and he has been described as being aged in his twenties with a slim build. He was stated to be white and around 5 feet 6 inches in height whilst wearing black clothes with a snood covering his face. Police are hoping that those walking or driving in this surrounding area on Friday evening can help with these enquires.

Investigators are asking for people with any ‘fresh’ information to contact police by calling their non-emergency number 101 and quote the case’s reference number of 44230512225. They can further submit details using the online reporting tool available on the Hampshire Police website, with all official support and further guidance available on the links here.

Alternatively, readers can contact the “independent charity” Crimestoppers 100% anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 for absolutely free; or via their anonymous online forms which can be found through their website: https://orlo.uk/250kR
