Braverman wins unwanted prank comedy award

By Connor Steel

FAREHAM MP Suella Braverman has been celebrated with an “unwanted award” after being tricked into accepting the 2023 “D**k of the Year’ crown; the former Home Secretary winning a nationwide vote from viewers of Channel 4’s “The Last Leg” before attending a prank ‘ceremony that has been seen by millions of people on Television and social media.

Ms Braverman beat a number of nominees including Rishi Sunak and Elon Musk to win the award, which is given to an unwitting public figure by the ‘comedy’ programme every year. It is chosen by viewers alongside the presenting team of Adam Hills, Alex Brooker and Josh Widdicombe; its previous winners featuring the former US President Donald Trump.

The Fareham MP has drawn big controversy in 2023 for comments she said as UK Home Secretary; including arguing that homelessness was a “lifestyle choice” and that an “invasion” of migration was coming to Britain. She was removed from her cabinet role in November, but remains a favourite for the Conservative Party leadership after the next election.

Staff of Channel 4 enlisted the support of Youtubers Josh and Archie to organise a ceremony on December 15; the duo deciding to pose as employees of a made-up company “Fareham Fishing”. They also invited Ms Braverman to attend a naming ceremony for a “small vessel” located on the banks of the River Wallington in Fareham; near to the creek area.

After offering a short speech and cutting a long ribbon the Fareham MP was left surprised as the signage was unveiled behind her; which confirmed her as being the ‘D**k of the Year’. Remarking to the camera, Ms Braverman said “I’m not sure what that is all about”, before stating “That’s going to go viral now” as she walked from this location with her team.

The full video from this prank can be viewed here and has been watched by over 146 thousand people alongside those who watched the ‘live show’ seen on Friday night. One viewer stated that it “was a great prank” and another expressed delight that the Fareham MP had fallen “Hook, line and sinker”. A third person praised Ms Braverman for “taking it well”.
