Boy arrested for robbery and police assault
GOSPORT POLICE have confirmed that a seventeen year old boy from the town has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault following an incident at Lee-on-the-Solent recreation ground late last week.
At approximately 7pm on Friday evening (June 17), two on-duty officers approached the male following a nearby robbery and a scuffle ensured; with both police staff suffering scratch marks and some bruising.
The incident was quickly ended with the arrest of the teenager, who was taken into police custody and is still under questioning from offers in the aftermath. It is not known whether any criminal charges will be brought.
The incident occurred as people enjoyed their evening walks and socialising in the park, near Lee-on-the-Solent Junior School; with temperatures reaching twenty-seven degrees on the hottest day so far this year.
News of the incident filtered through on social media with Gosport police confirming the full details just after 10pm through their respective Facebook and Twitter pages. A short paragraph stated the following:
“A 17-year-old Gosport male has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and assaulting two constables in their execution of their duties. The arrest occurred in Lee Recreation Ground. The male remains in police custody at the time of writing. Both officers are okay, remain on duty and are currently busy writing up”.
