Cemetery incident sparks Stubbington murder probe

HAMPSHIRE CONSTABULARY have announced an official “murder investigation” has been launched after an incident at Crofton Cemetery earlier on this week; this announcement being published earlier on Tuesday (July 25) following the tragic update that an elderly seventy-one year old woman died after suffering serious injuries at this site in Stubbington.

Officers were called to the scene near Lychgate Green at around 3:47pm on Monday afternoon (July 24), after a report of a serious assault. The victim received initial treatment from police and further care was given by colleagues from the South Central Ambulance but was sadly pronounced dead soon afterwards. Family members have now been informed.

Police have confirmed that a 66-year old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at this time, with further updates to be provided when necessary. They have asked residents not to speculate on the case and have advised that a specialist crime team will remain at Crofton Cemetery until all their initial enquires have concluded.
