Man charged following Gosport rape attack

HAMPSHIRE POLICE have confirmed that an eighteen year old male has been charged with the offences of rape and actual assault occasioning actual bodily harm after an attack in Gosport earlier this year; the victim believed to be known by the man when this incident took place within the Grange Road area on October 18.

Matthew Jackson, from Orchard Grove in the Cowplain area of Waterlooville, was arrested after this incident was reported to officers, before being questioned by investigators.  He was further charged and remanded in custody before appearing at a hearing before Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court early this week (November 29).

At this hearing he was bailed with conditions and is scheduled to attend Portsmouth Crown Court on January 3 (Tuesday) next year. These details were shared into the public domain on Wednesday via an official police press release, with further information not known at the time of writing due to ongoing judiciary proceedings.
