Residents invited to attend sixth Garden Walkabout
LOCAL RESIDENTS have been invited to attend the sixth Alverstoke Garden Walkabout over the weekend of June 7-8 (Saturday / Sunday); which will see gardens opened for the public in a bid to raise money for the Alverstoke Parish Centre Regeneration Fund (registered charity name: St Mary’s Alverstoke PCC – APCRP, no 1130178).
The Mayor of Gosport, Kirsten Bradley, will officially open the event from 1pm on June 7 within the Parish Centre; where a selection of refreshments and Pimms are set to be available to enjoy. Both days will run from 1pm and 5pm with visitors permitted to explore a number of gardens, which has been a popular occasion for everybody involved.
Some of the gardens have views across the Solent, one has a model steam railway running during the weekend, and another has a pirate ship for the children to explore. Visitors are encouraged to wear footwear that is appropriate for all weather conditions,
Entry is through a programme that costs £10 per adult (free admission for accompanied children) and is valid for both days. It has a stylised map, lists the gardens, their accessibility, whether they are dog friendly and if they are selling plants or refreshments.
Advance tickets are available from Alverstoke Post Office, Alverstoke Village Hardware, and Queen’s Parade News on Privett Road. Tickets on the day will be on sale at the Parish Centre on Green Road in Alverstoke (PO12 2ET) from 12pm to 5pm, as well as in the participating gardens.
The Garden Walkabout has now contributed over £30,000 towards the £570,000 raised for the Regeneration building fund. To date we have constructed a new car park and installed solar power for the Parish Centre; although more is needed to build an Annexe and extend / refurbish the current building.
