Sailors keep a stiff upper lip for Movember growth

By Matthew Hibberd

IF YOU thought that moustaches were just for the RAF or Royal Marines, then sailors from HMS Sultan have proven otherwise.

A total of 29 personnel, including some who were camera shy, have taken part in the charity moustache growing event, known as Movember, to raise awareness and funds for men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer, and mental health issues.

About £160 was raised by sailors who had spent the month growing beards which were converted to moustaches for the day.

The Commanding Officer, Captain John Voyce, was invited to inspect participants with prizes awarded to the individual sporting the best groomed, lightest trim, most likely to appear in a Hollywood blockbuster and best overall moustaches on display.

Leading Physical Trainer Joe Collin, who organised the event, said: “Movember provides a great platform to highlight men’s health. Its funny side encourages men to loosen up, to feel comfortable talking through difficult issues and it also raises money to help men get the support they need.”
