Thorngate organ treat for Buster movie buffs
NEARLY 100 people came to Gosport’s Thorngate Halls on Thursday, March 9, to see the Buster Keaton silent movie Steamboat Bill Junior.
Andy Quin played a wonderfully atmospheric live soundtrack on the Compton cinema organ, meshing perfectly with the slapstick scenes on the screen.
The film is from 1928 and Thorngate’s cinema organ dates from the same era, so they were a perfect partnership.
The event was jointly hosted by the Gosport and DIstrict Organ Club, and The Ritz Cinema @ St Vincent.
Following such a successful evening, there will certainly be more silent movies in the future. If you would like to be kept informed, please contact Gosportorgan@gmail.com.
