Unexplained death sparks Fareham police appeal

HAMPSHIRE CONSTABULARY have announced they have launched an “urgent” appeal for witnesses and information following the “unexplained death” of a thirty-nine year old male earlier this Friday morning (August 11); the force further confirming they have closed off an area close to Fareham Town Centre and arrested two people as part of their inquiry

Officers were contacted at approximately 06:07am this morning by staff from Southampton General Hospital, who were reporting they were treating the victim for “serious injuries”. Tragically he subsequently passed away from these injuries and the death is currently being treated as unexplained by investigators; whilst family have been informed of this news.

Early investigations have led police to erect a cordon block at the Trinity Street junction with West Street (close to Kens Speedy Pizza) and this will be in place until “further notice”. A short diversion is currently in place along the bus lane on West Street and officers remain currently at the scene to help motorists travelling in this area or the surrounding routes.

The force have stated they have arrested two people from Fareham in connection with this investigation; a 45-year-old man and 32-year-old female currently in custody on suspicion of causing ‘grievous bodily harm with intent’. But officers are keen to speak with anybody who was in the Trinity Street area between the time of 12:30am and 1:30am on Friday.

Investigators are asking for anybody with information or footage to contact police by calling the non-emergency number 101 and quote the case’s reference number of 44230323453. They can further submit details using the online reporting tool available on the Hampshire Police website, with all official support and further guidance available on the links here.
