Body found in search for Fareham man

HAMPSHIRE POLICE have sadly announced they have found a body in their search for twenty-six year old John Bishop; who was last seen returning to his home address on Compass Way in Swanwick, Fareham nearly two weeks ago on the evening of February 28.

An urgent appeal was launched two days later on March 2 by officers, who were getting increasingly concerned for his welfare and asked residents across the region for any information or potential sightings of Mr Bishop. This was shared via social media across Hampshire and through local press outlets, being seen by thousands of residents.

But in another statement released via social media late on Saturday evening (March 12) police updated their previous appeal with the confirmation that a body had been found near to the River Hamble at Bursledon earlier in the afternoon.

John’s next of kin has been informed of this news and formal identification procedures haven’t yet taken place. Officers have also stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.

Police further thanked the public for their support in this case, both by sharing information and sharing their appeals during the course of this investigation. They have also asked that privacy be given to the family at this difficult and tragic time.
