Fareham in stadium maintenance plea

By Connor Steel

FAREHAM TOWN FC have appealed to club volunteers and loyal supporters for assistance in carrying out key maintenance tasks at its Cams Alders stadium early next month; with the management team preparing for pre-season games and the new 2022-23 season now confirmed to start on August 2 (Tuesday).

Volunteers are asked to meet at Cams Alders for a 9:30am start on July 3 (Sunday), with a range of tasks needing to be completed. These will likely include painting of fences, sweeping the stands and de-weeding the surroundings of the pitch; although a list hasn’t yet been released by the club at the time of writing.

It comes as annual pitch work has been completed on the turf to enable growth and further resistance to extreme weather or use; which should help reduce the amount of postponed home games through the season. The entrance to Cams Alders and the dressing room building have also been painted in order to make it more welcoming to visiting teams, as well as to the expected increase of fans and supporters.

The Creeksiders made the appeal on Wednesday evening (22/06) and have expressed their desire to hold a barbeque for volunteers to express their gratitude once all tasks have been completed. This is of course weather permitting with refreshments and drinks expected to be available for those in attendance regardless.

Pete Stiles’ men are set to play their first home game on July 23 as they host Basingstoke in a pre-season encounter at Cams Alders, before the ‘Globe Derby’ versus Gosport Borough FC seven days later. Fareham will also play a range of away fixtures throughout July including Petersfield Town and Littlehampton Town.

And it has also been announced that the new Wessex League fixtures will be released in full early next week, with the first round of games already confirmed following a meeting. It is another home match to start the campaign after last years 2-2 draw against Baffins Milton Rovers; with AFC Stoneham set to visit on the evening of August 2 (Tuesday) kicking off at 7:45pm at Cams Alders. More details will be available shortly.
