Tesco offers free armed forces breakfasts

TESCO have announced that Armed Forces members will be able to get a free hot breakfast across its Hampshire cafes on June 26; with the branded supermarket saying a huge thank you as it marks Armed Forces Day this Sunday with a series of national events across its stores.

All serving Armed Forces personnel, regulars, and reservists can claim this offer by presenting their MOD90 identification card at any Tesco café; entitling them to a single free hot breakfast that is limited to each cardholder across a range of products with no financial purchase needed.

This includes sausage and bacon baps; alongside the traditional English and vegan breakfasts sold in the supermarkets’ cafes. Eggs, bacon, baked beans, sausages, hash browns and mushrooms will be served up based on availability, alongside vegetarian options when required.

Ashwin Prasad, Chief Product Officer at Tesco and Director Sponsor of the Armed Forces Network, said in a short press release: “We’re proud to be able to support National Armed Forces Day, which will celebrate the tremendous contribution that the armed forces make to our country”

Confirming that the offer extended to its own colleagues and employers, he added: “It’s an exciting opportunity for store colleagues to celebrate. Everyone loves a free breakfast and we thought it was a gesture that showed how much we value members of the Armed Forces.”

The supermarket is also set to hold collections at its stores across the country this weekend, with all monies raised going to Help for Heroes. Founded in 2007 the British Charity provides lifelong support / help to those service men and women wounded or injured in the line of duty, alongside their families.

Rhys Little, Chair of the Armed Forces Network at Tesco, said: “We’ve got a long history of getting behind those who have been in the forces. We’ve received the Gold award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme twice now, and we were also the first retailer to sign the Armed Forces Covenant in 2014. We also do our best to give anyone leaving the army, navy or RAF a chance to forge a new career.”

Local stores that are set to participate include Tesco in Fareham Town Centre (near to the police station), alongside those in Portsmouth and Port Solent / Portchester.
