Picture Special: Views of the Flying Scotsman

THE FLYING SCOTSMAN is an iconic express passenger train that was 1st built in 1923, costing just £7,944 before completing over 40 years of routine service running from Edinburgh to London. It has toured countries including America, Canada, and Australia; becoming “world-famous” for its heritage and engineering control.

As part of its centenary tour the steam train brought passengers from London Victoria to Portsmouth Harbour on Saturday (June 17) via Eastleigh and Woking; arriving just after midday. It stayed stationed in Portsmouth to allow all passengers to explore the coastal city, reversing back at around 4pm and returning to the capital.

This allowed residents from Fareham and Portchester to view the Flying Scotsman twice throughout the day; many lining vantage points to take photographs. Our readers have kindly sent us these images which can be seen below, with all photographs welcomed for the collection by sending to the Globe’s editorial address link.
