Submariners treat widows to Christmas lunch

By Ron Gordon

THE Gosport Branch of the Submariners Association recently held their Annual Widows Christmas Lunch at the Crofton pub in Stubbington last Wednesday (December 7).

Seen as a highlight of the annual calendar the event saw fourteen members of the branch entertain a selection of guests, featuring twelve widows and thirteen others.

Lesley & Claire, from the Gosport and Fareham Multi-Academy Trust Community Hub, volunteered to serve the meals, ably assisted by one of the branch members WO Midge Ure, in uniform.

Support to our widows is an essential activity for the branch and we are very proud to host this annual event.

We are very grateful to Brian and Mel who host the Christmas lunch every year at their pub.

As can be seen from the photo (above), everyone enjoyed their meal, the company and the traditional sing song.

As the home of the Submarine Museum, and previous home of the Royal Navy Submarine Service the Gosport Branch has 200 members who meet monthly for fellowship, support and charity fundraising.

If you are a submariner in the Gosport or Fareham area and would like to consider joining the branch, please contact Ron Gordon at rongordon58@gmail.com or contact a member of the committee listed on the branch website: https://www.gosportsubmariners.com/committee
