Bygone Years: Passing Gosport by Water

GOSPORT has always been a popular “vantage” point for ships leaving Portsmouth Harbour, which was highly evident when thousands of residents lined on the waterfront area in 2017 to welcome HMS Queen Elizabeth. This is a tradition that has continued from the past generations; with warships, ferries and cruise liners all viewed from across the waters.

In this weekly edition of Bygone Years, our Globe photographer Peter Maguire has been searching through his popular collection of historic and local photographs to showcase ‘iconic’ ships that have passed through Portsmouth Harbour in the last 125 years; all drawing crowds to Gosport’s waterfront and happy atmosphere (credit to original photographers).
