Bygone Years: Scenes from Portchester

PORTCHESTER is a popular village located in the Fareham Borough and is home for almost 20,000 people, proving a welcome link between Portsmouth and Southampton. It has over 1000 years of recorded history with a Latin origin and is more famous for its iconic Castle site, which was built within the medieval third century Roman fort of ‘Portus Adurni’.

For the weekly edition of Bygone Years our Globe photographer Peter Maguire has been searching through his popular collections of historic and recent local images to showcase this traditional village across past generations; including the natural scenes of Creekside beauty, the historic Castle site and its popular buildings (credits to original photographers).
